July 2007 Bloom Day

July Bloom Day 2007
There is still a lot blooming in Davis...the heat wave that moved through didn't last long enough to cause much damage. When I look around I see many blooming plants but what I don't have is big waves of color...given the small space I have to work with (I know it's all relative!) I mix things in here and there so there is no real "flower bed" and rarely two of the same thing together. I do repeat plants around the yard so there is some sense of cohesiveness but that's as good as it gets. I've got a lot to do tomorrow (like planting the two daylilies I got at Amador Flower Farm today) so I have written the list as of the 14th and will take pictures tomorrow morning...except for the Stargazer that I took this morning when writing my list. I haven't listed the veggies which are also all blooming...

Given your small space, you sure have a long list of flowers blooming mid-summer.

Thanks for participating in Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day again.

Thanks for checking in...it is all relative, I suppose, but having seen other blogs I can't help but wish I had the space some of them do! However, I have very little lawn left so that gives me some possibilities! I guess it also helps keep me in control.:)

Good grief, what a long list, Leslie! You have some plants I know, and a lot of unusual ones.

The third one down is a Solanum, right? I hope my non-blooming plant will turn out to be this color some day.

Hi Leslie, found you via Carol's blog. I'm impressed by your list of blooms. That's quite a lot considering you do not have all that much space.

Lovely pics!

So you're experiencing a heath wave? I a deluge. My plants are drowning!

BTW my bloom post is up too!

Annie...yes, that is Solanum rantonnetii...it grows easily here but died back quite a bit in the freeze this winter...some years it doesn't even lose all its leaves. However...it is another of my plants I need to prune a lot!
Yolanda Elizabet...they are pretty much packed in together...Hope your plants survive the downpour!
Marie...thanks for stopping by...I'm always happy when a photo comes out OK since I'm not a very good photographer :)

Beautiful pictures--I especially love the Stargazer with those dark orange stamens/pistils/whatevers (my flower anatomy sucks) contrasting against the dark pink and white of the petals.

By the way, you're really making me think, Leslie... about how to incorporate some swaths of color into small yards. I kept thinking that I couldn't do it on my .11 acres, either, but maybe we're both missing something here? Hmm.

I live in Davis too, and I couldn't find the Blue Marguarite. Where did you find it/

Kristi...It might be easier to find certain times of the year...however I've seen it at Home Depot, Capital Nursery and Davis Lumber. Be sure to buy a four-inch pot...they grow so fast here, at least in the summer, that you don't really need to spend the money on a gallon plant! Another fun nursery is Clancy's out near the Sacramento airport although I don't think I've seen the marguarite there.
