Garden Blogger Bloom Day February 2017

What an amazingly different winter this has been! Or maybe its just what I would have considered a normal winter 6 or 7 years ago. Rain, rain, and more rain! Only part way through our rainy season and we are 4 inches ahead of our yearly average...and way ahead of what we have had the last few years. The California reservoirs are pretty much full and  thus far the failed dam crisis has been averted. My water saver cans (7 plastic garbage cans totaling 300 gallons) are already full of rain water. And the hillsides are green! In the garden blooms are everywhere...from the fringe flower, loropetalum chinense,  to the borage that hasn't stopped blooming for months.

The camellias have more blooms than they have for years which tells me that perhaps they like winter water. Haha.

Narcissi of all sorts from small...

...to larger...

...larger...

...larger...

are coming into bloom.

This passalong grape scented iris has bloomed in various parts of the garden for a couple months. Not sure what the rush is this year but maybe the rain has it confused.

More appropriately, the summer snowflakes which were divided and spread around last year are also blooming in small clumps.

And the hellebores are happier than they have been in a while. Well...so is this gardener!

A happy garden and a happy gardener! That's perfect. I love Borage, the blue flowers are delightful. I saw it planted in a hanging basket at MOBOT and need to remind myself to try that here. Happy Bloom Day, Leslie. xoxogail

Wow--you have quite a bloom show there! Our borage doesn't get into full swing until late, late spring.

So many flowers...if I didn't know better I'd say it's March or April in the PNW! So glad your getting some free water.

I love that last hellebore, what a stunning colour. Camellias do like a lot of rain. They must do, they grow really well for me in England!!

Sweet Leslie, I hear the happiness in your voice. Californians have been really taking it on the chin for a long time. I'm so glad to see your garden in bloom. We got a little rain finally two days ago, and everything looks so much happier. I know I am.~~Dee

So glad you've been getting the rain you need. Drought tolerant is not the same thing as loving it dry, is it? So many plants can live with less even though they would prefer more.

I'm glad you got rain, too. Why is that rain is so often on a flood or famine schedule.
We are getting weirdly warm weather, some rain, and even a quick tonado in a nearby town. None of us have any flowers. I love visiting you at this time of the year.
