Sometimes I Like Red in the Garden

For someone who is not a big fan of red in the garden I certainly have an awful lot of it here right now. I will admit that on a gloomy gray Central California winter day some bright red accents can be welcome in the garden. It's here in the form of berries on nandina  and cotoneaster,

flowers like cyclamen and these very welcome red items that we picked yesterday!

Purple accents are my favorite, but red is pretty, too. Especially when it's a flower or berry. Leslie, it's so nice that the kids get to be in your garden. gail

How smart of you to plant those radishes in a pot. Did the kids like them?

You know how I feel about nandinas but the berries do give me pause. I wish I could grow cotoneasters but I've not seen them offered here.

The kids were so excited to see some of the radishes were ready...and they gobbled them up! They were good...not too hot like they can get in the summer.
I know Cindy! I do think nandina has it's place. I like the movement it has when the breeze picks up on a hot summer afternoon too.

Your reds are beautiful, and I think the idea of growing radishes in a pot is terrific. For a very different landscape check out my video today.

Red is fine by me in winter, but like you, I'm not crazy about it as a flower color. That one photo looks like a hand-tinted black & white, the foliage colors are so muted compared with those bright berries.
